God of War III: Teaser on GOW PSP Manual

We received the final boxed version of God of War: Chains of Olympus for PSP this morning. And on the back of the manual? A teaser image for God of War III for the PlayStation 3.

God of War III

The tease is almost exactly the same as the one featured on the back of the manual for God of War II, which originally confirmed that a God of War game was in the works for the PSP. The only difference this time is there’s no hint at a release date — only the words “Coming Soon” with a PS3 logo, as opposed to the slightly more specific (and eventually incorrect) “Coming 2007″ featured on the God of War II manual.

Of course, we already knew God of War III was in the works for the PlayStation 3. Hopefully with this far more overt tease, though, it means more details on the game will soon follow as well.

Final Fantasty VII: Crisis Core (PSP)

Creating a spin-off of a beloved story is a tricky task, one that usually results in failure. For every prequel that’s fleshed out the original work’s backstory and deepened its characters, you can name a dozen that merely tainted their inspirations by association. To date, Square Enix hasn’t done very well trying to expand on Final Fantasy VII; its offshoots to date run a very small gamut from completely lame (Dirge of Cerberus) to completely wretched (Advent Children). So by all rights, Crisis Core — the latest effort to expand the FFVII universe — should be painful, a disaster that further cheapens the good name of the landmark PlayStation role-playing game.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Review

By now we should all be familiar with the Super Smash Bros. formula: Mix basic platforming action with old-school, button-pressing, arcade-style combat while adding copious amounts of, oh, every Nintendo game ever made. With Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it’s a fan-service smorgasbord at its glorious best, folding in not only all of the goodies that made it into the series’ two previous iterations (Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee), but just about every bit of Nintendo lore that’s surfaced between Melee’s 2001 release and now. This includes appearances of hardcore, obscure stuff like Electroplankton and Sin and Punishment paraphernalia, Captain Olimar and his Pikmin, and just about any first-party Nintendo tidbit you can think of. For Nintendo fans, that’s great stuff. The more the merrier. But how does the game balance out between the die-hard fans and the less committed?

Soul Nomad & The World Eaters: Preview

A hands-on look at Nippon Ichi’s new squad based Strategy RPG.

While much of the hardcore gaming crowd has most likely migrated over to one of the next gen systems by now, fans of niche games still have a comfortable home on the PS2 thanks to game companies like Nippon Ichi and Atlus providing us with great games like Odin Sphere, GrimGrimoire, and the upcoming Persona 3 on a fairly consistent basis. Nippon Ichi’s next effort, Soul Nomad and the World Eaters, is the long awaited return to their Strategy RPG roots that fans have been waiting for ever since they had their fill of Disgaea 2. In fact, give Soul Nomad a quick glance and you’d probably think that it was in fact Disgaea 3. Despite visual similarities however, Soul Nomad and Disgaea are as different as night and day when it comes to how they are played.
