Creating a spin-off of a beloved story is a tricky task, one that usually results in failure. For every prequel that’s fleshed out the original work’s backstory and deepened its characters, you can name a dozen that merely tainted their inspirations by association. To date, Square Enix hasn’t done very well trying to expand on Final Fantasy VII; its offshoots to date run a very small gamut from completely lame (Dirge of Cerberus) to completely wretched (Advent Children). So by all rights, Crisis Core — the latest effort to expand the FFVII universe — should be painful, a disaster that further cheapens the good name of the landmark PlayStationrole-playinggame.
Iron Man, an explosive third-person action shooter game that pits one of the world’s most renowned Super Heroes against unspeakable odds, draws its story from the upcoming movie while also incorporating story elements from original Iron Man comic books.

Activision today announced that the first-ever playable version of Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures will be featured at this year’s Play.com Live event.
The event will also play host to a series of competitions, with prizes ranging from a new Xbox360console complete with a 32” HD ready LCD TV and a copy of the game itself, to a massive £5000 Play.com gift voucher.

The year 2008 is starting out in spectacular fashion for Sony’s PlayStationPortable. Not long ago, the company released Patapon, an engaging platformer that combined elements of strategic gameplay with roleplaying and musical-rhythm based combat.

Another yuletide, another sequel for EA’s Need For Speed racing series vying for the Christmas Number One slot. Like clockwork these titles arrive on cue each year, treading the difficult line between mixing things up a bit in the way of new features while remaining true to tradition and pandering to fans’ expectations.
