More than perhaps any other professional sport, the road to baseball’s highest echelon is one of the longest and most convoluted. The fighting world of Tekken has made its way to the PlayStation 3 console system, sporting 1080p graphics and a new playable character.

The question that needs to be asked, though, is if this Dead or Alive-style title has what it takes to create a viable fighting experience. Namco Bandai certainly thinks so, and while the game has a very arcade/platform feel to it, there is no denying that graphically the franchise has entered the next-gen era in some regards.

With 34 fighters available to use and three main modes of play – arcade, ghost and versus – the game presents a button-masher’s dream. But the game still, in spite of the three-dimensional characters, still has a two-dimensional feel to it. The fighting is done on a 2D plane, with movement allowed either to move left or right. The game controls are all tied into the four hot keys and the directional pad.

13 February 2007 - Square Enix have announced that the UK launch of Final Fantasy XII will take place at HMV Oxford Street amid much fanfare on February 23.

Fans who have been eagerly awaiting the next instalment in the award-winning franchise that has sold more than 70 million units worldwide, will get the opportunity to meet Akitoshi Kawazu and Hiroshi Minagawa, the executive producer and director of the game.

In addition, the first 100 people to buy the game at the event will be given an exclusive Moogle soft toy and a CD soundtrack featuring five songs from Final Fantasy XII. The following 200 people to buy the game will also receive the soundtrack.

The event runs from 12-2pm, but eager gamers can arrive early and pick up a wristband, available in store from 9am, 23rd February. Fans coming in costume run the chance of winning additional prizes.

If all that wasn’t enough, anyone attending the launch event can also enter a competition to win a trip for two to Japan with no purchase necessary.

Criterion’s Burnout series of games has long been known for offering high-speed racing and spectacular crashes. In previous entries, the UK-based developer has made a point of experimenting with new gameplay modes and mechanics rather than just sticking with its existing formula, and Burnout Dominator is no exception. The upcoming game introduces some promising new features to the mix, but it also does away with some existing ones, at least one of which you might sorely miss. The result, as far as we can tell after spending a few hours with the game, is a highly distilled Burnout that concentrates on doing what the series has always done best while making a few sacrifices along the way.
